About Neuro-Adaptive Technique

What is NAT?

Neuro-Adaptive Technique (NAT) is a gentle and safe chiropractic adjusting method. The teaching of NAT extends to adjusting babies, children, and adults. The approach emphasizes understanding the principles established by Dr. DD Palmer in 1895, focusing on tone, frequency, and vibration to guide the body's innate ability to heal itself. NAT activates the right and left brain hemispheres by updating neuro-emotional patterns to help break cycles and restore present need physiology.  The touch of certain reflex points activates the neural components of the cerebellum to unlock the fight or flight physiology. The emphasis is on balancing the nervous system rather than manipulating, stimulating the neuro-mechano receptors within joints, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissues; thus restoring neurological function to the entire body.

The purpose of NAT is to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, specifically the vagus nerve, to achieve balance using muscle spindles and golgi tendons in the body to create loops of connection through touch. These points, found in every muscle, send signals to the cerebellum, a key part of the nervous system. Many people tend to remain in a state of sympathetic dominance, commonly known as fight or flight, leading to various negative effects on bodily functions: stress, digestion, hormone dis-regulation, etc. NAT aims to address these issues and many more by updating the nervous system and promoting a more balanced state. We are training the nervous system to create a new pathway, a new code to run on.

Through NAT adjustments, the physical structural physiology controlled in the cerebellum, which may manifest as defense physiology, can be modified without negation. By targeting areas on the body, the engram associated with defense physiology can be gently updated, leading to the alleviation of physical symptoms and the restoration of balance in the body and vital health.

NAT has been created by Dr. Jim Claussen, DC. He has spent 30 years perfecting his technique & teaching chiropractors a different way to adjust with certainty and precision.

  • Neuro-Adaptive Technique (NAT) is a gentle and safe chiropractic approach that uses muscle spindles and golgi tendons in the body to create loops of connection through touch.

  • The cerebellum, a key part of the nervous system, is involved in storing physical, structural physiology, which may manifest as defense physiology, leading to symptoms like constipation, anxiety, depression, sleep issues, etc.

  • NAT adjustments target tender areas on the body to update the engram associated with defense physiology, aiming to alleviate physical symptoms and restore balance to the body.

  • By creating loops with afferent and efferent pathways, NAT aims to build connections with the brain and shift the body away from the fight or flight response, ultimately changing patterns from input to output.

  • NAT has integrated the Zone adjusting techniques created by Dr. Thurman Fleet. Zone adjusting activates certain vertebra to neurologically reset brain centers and to restore normal communication between brain and body to set up a properly adaptive nervous system.
